1. Catch them being great.
Notice and name the good stuff: “You asked for juice with words. Nice!”
2. Make routines visual.
A simple picture schedule for morning or bedtime reduces meltdowns around transitions.
3. Wait five seconds.
After you ask something, pause. Many children need more time to process and respond.
4. Practice one skill in one place.
Pick this week’s goal and one natural moment to practice it, like requesting at snack time.
5. Ask your therapist for “one thing”.
At the end of each session, ask for a single strategy to try before the next one.
